Chaetoceros similis Cleve 1896

Synonym(s):

Life-form: Cells united in short chains or solitary.

Size: Diameter = 5 - 17 µm, Pervalvar axis = 11-15 µm, Transapical axis = 7 µm

Note: Solitary specimens can be confused with solitary living species as e.g. Chaetoceros tenuissimus Meunier.

Distinctive features: Apertures narrow and divided in two parts. Mostly two chloroplasts.

Similar species: Chaetoceros tenuissimus

Distribution: Northern Atlantic and Northern Pacific.
