HOME Water

With the web service HOME Water, it is possible to carry out a cost-efficient action planning in accordance with the EU's framework directive for water for lakes, watercourses and coastal waters.

Through calculations of the conditions in water bodies and source apportionment on these, HOME Water works out the effects of proposed measures and their costs.

This information facilitates planning and response efforts for water management for the water authorities, the county councils, the municipalities, the water management associations, the water councils and other regional and local operators.

HOME Water links together model-based hydrological and coastal zone information with economic information. The system is adapted to the water planning cycle's various phases.

HOME Water calculates model-based status classifications based on the Environmental Protection Agency's criteria for each body of water. HOME Water can also calculate the source apportionment on each body of water, which can form the basis of action planning.

Advantages with HOME Water:

  • User-friendly map-based web service
  • SMHI provides information for and updates the hydrological and coastal zone model
  • The water authority supplies environmental and economic models
  • Easy to change the model’s input data to calculate different scenarios
  • Supplement to traditional environmental monitoring

Results

The results are presented in the form of clickable maps. By marking a body of water on the map, information is shown regarding:

  • The condition in the lakes, watercourses and coastal water for various parameters, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, oxygen and chlorophyll
  • Nitrogen and phosphorous levels in each body of water
  • Gross and net loads and retention in the catchment area
  • Source apportionment of nitrogen and phosphorous load

It is also possible to compare different model calculations with each other.
All the results can be exported to Excel. The information is based on the SVAR database's ID and can therefore easily be imported into VISS, for example, for further analysis.
