Within the SMHI meteorological research there are six strategically important research areas. Within these areas, we have increased the focus that drives research and development forward and increases the social benefit of the results.

By doing reanalyses of past weather observations, researchers can create longer and coherent time series of past weather, with more details and higher resolution than before. The information can be used e.g. to validate climate models or to run other, fine scale models.
