During the ice season, which is usually from November to May, the ice service monitors the ice and sea surface temperature in the Baltic Sea, Lake Vänern as well as Lake Mälaren (only ice conditions). The analysis is presented on the webpage in the form of charts and reports. In addition to the ice situation analysis the ice service also provides forecasts of weather, ice extent and ice drift.
The ice service at SMHI is engaged in a number of international collaborations within the field of sea ice, and provides expertise within various projects where sea ice conditions may be a factor.
Ice charts and reports are available free of charge and can be found here.
